After having researched and then dealt with Food Sensitivities for as long as I have, I have to wonder if what I did yesterday was just plain stupid, or “calculated”. Calculated seems a platitude at this point!

As I’ve mentioned previously, after a time – typically 3 month to a year, after having refrained from eating a food, you can try to reintroduce the food back into your diet. The science behind it, is that the antibodies that are developed in a food sensitivity (not in an allergic reaction – the two reactions are different) will die off. If the antibodies are no longer in your system, they won’t be able to alert your immune system to attack.

I’ve known I was sensitive to egg yolks since 2014. Six years. SIX YEARS! I’ve tried reintroducing previously, and apparently those tries have kept the antibodies reinvigorated. The unique thing for me with the egg yolks is the reaction – they make my legs burn.

Burning in the legs is a potential symptom of Lipedema. (I say potential because not all Lipedema women experience this.) The fact that I can “turn on” and “turn off” this reaction with my food choices makes me realize how correct my theory just might be. As you know, I believe there’s a connection between Lipedema and Food Sensitivities, and that Lipedema is an Autoimmune condition.

I believe this burning is nerve pain – and here’s an article that backs me up on the effect of “allergies” on nerve pain.

About a year ago, I thought I might have waited long enough, so I tried eggs. Boy, they were good! I checked my weight the next day, (another symptom for me – if I don’t lose 0.4 lb a day, then I know I ate a reactive food) and I lost my 0.4 lbs – great! No sensitivity! About a week later, I tried eggs again, and I didn’t lose any weight – not a HORRIBLE reaction, but an indication. Another week later, and my weight went up – and that burning sensation….

I’ve been careful not to have eggs since, working to let the antibodies die off again.

But now, in hindsight, I remember that at the birthday lunch I had with my friend last week, the roll was a brioche-type very eggy roll.

And yesterday, hubby and I ordered sushi, and it had been so long, that I forgot to ask to hold the sauces. One of the sauces was a mayo based sauce.

But the really wild thing is that I caught the reaction…. A little while after eating, I took my weight. It was about a pound up from where I expected it to be at that time of day. And, although I’m not thrilled at publicizing my weight – I did find the numerical superstition of the number humorous – 166.6 lbs. To get the last digit to be different, I removed my socks, stepped on again, and my weight was 167.4. I removed my socks and my weight went UP?

This morning, I’m about 2 pounds up from my morning weight, and the burning has started.

I could try to see the glass half full and say it was a reintroduction “test”, or just admit to the glass half empty and admit to my “mistake”.

Either way, I see Benadryl in my immediate future.
